Chayla Jenea Cervantes (Formerly Caires)
Chayla was born in Aurora, CO in 1988. She lived in Wichita, KS for the first 19 years of her life before moving to Denver, Westminster and then eventually Longmont CO for nearly 8 years. After the birth of her daughter, she returned to school to attain a higher education. Circumstances required that her family relocate to Fort Worth, Texas to be near family in order to finish school. Since her arrival in Texas she has completed the Visual Arts Associates program at Tarrant County College. This experience inspired her to push further toward a BFA at the University of Texas at Arlington.
Throughout college, Chayla continued exploring the possibilities of a fulfilling practice. Her figurative drawings and paintings developed into a whimsical representational style that remains rooted in realism and tradition. She began seriously exhibiting her artwork in group exhibitions such as Reflections of Gratitude at the Texas Visual Arts Association Gallery in 2019. With graduation in May of 2021, Chayla is preparing for an artful life outside of the university structure. She is continuing to remain involved with the arts community of DFW and steadily producing work for future exhibitions.
